The first time I cosplayed was several years ago. Five to be exact. I had heard from a friend that he was going to an anime con and asked me and two more friends to tag along. It was rather sudden, and of course I didn't have any costume at home. Yet, with determination and a lot of patience, I started searching around my old closet for any clothes which could look anything like a fictional character. As a kid I dreamt with being Link, as I grew up with a Nintendo 64 and Ocarina of Time was my all-time favourite. As I looked for anything that remotely looked like his outfit, I was blessed by lady luck. I found a green v-neck sweater, a white t-shirt, green shorts which i cut into a 'skirt', and a green hat. Yes, you heard (read?) right. As a kid, I had done several shows in elementary dressed as anything from a fish from Nemo, to an Arab man to.. Well, an elf. Not only that, but I found my old plastic sword I had used for my conqueror costume for Columbus day. I took my brown belt and some brown coincase for my 'rupees'. I hung my sword from a backpack strap and put on some rain boots. And amazingly, without spending one cent, I completed a fairly decent Link cosplay (and got several people to ask for a photo with me!). The convention I went to wasn't very big at all. We were pretty tight and there was no wardrobe, so I had to walk around the entire day with my bag, which was terribly annoying. It was February, and, as I live in the southern hemisphere, it was REALLY hot, and I wasn't wearing the coolest costume. Nonetheless, I managed to have a lot of fun with my friends. One was dressed as Ichigo from Bleach, and broke his sword the night before, having to fix it with duct tape. Finally, two other friends dresed as Light and L and tied with some handcuffs. They even took a Death Note, and we tried to utilize it, but it didn't really work out. (Probably fake names). The highlight of the convention was a brand new Dragon Ball Z OVA, featuring Vegeta's brother and the evil guys Abbo and Kado. I remember everyone cheering (including myself) when Gotenks showed up. Well, that's the story of my first (and only, so far) cosplay. I hope you liked it and that I didn't waste too much time of your lives. Peace.
